The Wokingham Borough Observatory can help you explore local data and information that are relevant to these celebratory and awareness events in March:

8 March 2024: International Women’s Day – This is an important date in the women’s rights movement and is commemorated each year by the United Nations and around the world. See the reports on Population & Demographics and Adult Health & Social Care, which give insight on the different health outcomes between male and female residents.

10 March 2024: Ramadan – This is the expected start date for the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims around the world do not eat or drink during the hours of daylight to devote themselves to their faith. See the “religion” section of the Population & Demographics report for data on the Muslim population in the Borough.

24 March 2024: World Tuberculosis Day – Tuberculosis (TB) is an infection that usually affects the lungs. It can be treated with antibiotics but can be serious if not treated. The World Health Organization uses World TB Day to raise public awareness about the disease and step up efforts to fight it.  On the Data Explorer, search using the keyword “tuberculosis” to get indicators such as incidence rates and the proportion of drug sensitive TB cases.

25 March 2024: Holi – Also known as the Festival of Colours, this is a significant festival celebrated by Hindus and many South Asian communities. Use the Population & Demographics map to visualise the population distribution by ‘detailed ethnic groups’ in the Borough.
