Find out more about the diverse identities of our community through these awareness days held in December, using data and information available on the Wokingham Borough Observatory.

3 December 2023: International Day of People with Disabilities – This day is recognised by the United Nations to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The Adult Health and Social Care report provides various statistics on disabilities in the Borough. The Wokingham Health and Wellbeing Strategy into Action 2021-2030 document, available on the Needs Assessments and Further Resources page, outlines what we are doing locally to support our residents, including those with disabilities.

7 December 2023: Hannukah – This marks the start of the important Jewish festival which is observed for eight nights and days. Look at the “religion” section of the Population & Demographics report for information on the Jewish population in the Borough.

25 December 2023: Christmas – This commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, and is a religious as well as a cultural celebration by many people around the world. The “religion” section of the Population & Demographics report shows what proportion of our residents identified as Christian in the 2021 Census.
